Setup Multipule
Mailboxes with Eudora Light
Step 1 - Installing Eudora and Creating Mailbox Directories:
- Create a temporary directory if one does not exist. For
example: C:\TEMP
- Download the Eudora file from Qualcomm by selecting the
appropriate link from the software list. (http://www.silcon.com/subcenter/update.html).
Store the file in the Temporary directory you created in step 1.
- Run the .EXE file you downloaded. It is a self-extracting
archive and will create the SETUP.EXE file as well as several other files in the temporary
directory you created. Once you have run the archive, you can delete the .EXE file you
downloaded.
- Run the SETUP.EXE program located in the temporary directory.
This program will install the Eudora software on your computer.
- After installing Eudora, create a separate directory for each
mailbox that you will be accessing from this computer using Eudora. For example:
C:\EUDORA\MBOX1 and C:\EUDORA\MBOX2
In Windows 95 & 98:
- Click on the Start button in the lower left of the computer.
Select Setting, then Taskbar.
- Click on the Start Menu Programs tab.
- Click on the Add button. A dialog will appear requesting the
program command line. Here is an example: C:\EUDORA\EUDORA.EXE C:\EUDORA\MBOX1
- You will then be asked to name the connection appropriately.
Example: "Amy's Mail".
- Repeat these steps for each directory you created.
In Windows 3.1:
- Open the program group in which you want to have the Eudora
icons appear.
- Fill out the Program Items Properties dialog. In the following
example we are entering the information for Mailbox 1.
Description: Mailbox 1
Command Line: C:\EUDORA\EUDORA.EXE C:\EUDORA\MBOX1
Working Directory:
Shortcut Key: None
The key to using Eudora with multiple mailboxes is to specify
a different directory as the first parameter on the command line of the Program Item that
you create for Eudora. For each mailbox, you will have a program icon, each with a
different first parameter on the command line. The first parameter specifies the directory
in which the configuration and e-mail messages for each mailbox will be stored.
For Mac's
- Create a new folder for the second user's e-mail. For example,
you call it user2 folder.
- Open the Eudora Folder that's in the System folder. It
contains your Eudora Settings file.
- Rename this file, for example, MySettings.
- Make an alias of this MySettings file and put it in the Apple
Menu Items folder in the System Folder. Call the alias something descriptive, like
"George's Eudora" if the first user's name is George.
- Restart Eudora and then quit.
- Look in that folder again; Eudora will have created a new
Eudora Settings file. Move this file into your new user2 folder. Make an alias of it and
put the alias into the Apple Menu Items folder. Call the alias something descriptive, like
"Marsha's Eudora" if the second user's name is Marsha.
- Now open Eudora again by double-clicking on the new Eudora
Settings file in the user2 folder. When Eudora opens, change the (blank) settings to
whatever you need for the second address.
- Repeat the above procedure to create new e-mail folders for as
many address configurations as you need. Now, you can choose which e-mail folder you want
by choosing the appropriate alias from the Apple menu. You can even switch settings from
within Eudora by selecting a different alias from the Apple Menu. You don't need to quit
and restart Eudora to change settings files.
Configuring the Eudora Software
Eudora will display the Settings dialog when it is first
opened. Enter the following information:
POP Account: mailbox1@mail.silcon.com
This is the location of your mailbox at Silicon Connections.
The text to the left of the @ is your mailbox. The text to the right of the @ is always
"silcon.com"
Real Name: Your Real Name
This is your full name (e.g., Mary Smith) as you want it to
appear on outgoing e-mail.
Return Address: mailbox@yourdomain.com
Enter your return address as you want it to appear on
outgoing e-mail. For example,
mailbox1@silcon.com.
SMTP: mail.silcon.com
This is where outgoing mail is sent for delivery. It is
always mail.silcon.com.
You are now ready to use this copy of Eudora to read your
first mailbox. Repeat the steps for creating a program item and for configuring Eudora for
each mailbox you want to access.
Notes:
- Before using a second mailbox, close down any open copy of
Eudora.
- You will want to remove the check from the "Save
Password" checkbox in the options menu to prevent others from accessing the
mailboxes.
