FrontPage

Microsoft's Frontpage program is an easy to use web page authoring and management tool.  You can use Microsoft's Frontpage with your Silicon Connections account.

Before you can use Frontpage, you need to inform Silicon Connections that you would like Frontpage configured for use on your account. To do so, please send an e-mail message to support@silcon.com.  

After the extentions have been installed on your account, you can log on to your account using the Frontpage explorer program.

There are two main ways of using Frontpage:

Options 1:

The first option is to create your site using a "Local Web".  This special website is hosted by a special web server running on your own computer.  This allows you to completely setup and test the web site without having to be connected to the Internet or effecting your "real" web site hosted on Silicon Connections servers.  When you are finished with the site and ready to make it public, you can then "Publish" the web site to the Silicon Connections web servers.

To do this, create a web site on the "Local Web".  When you are finished with the site, click on the Publish button.   You will be prompted for the location to publish to.  For personal accounts, you will type in http://silcon.com/~yourusername.  For business customers, you will enter www.yourdomain.com.   Frontpage will then copy the local web to your web site at Silicon Connections.

Option 2:

The second option is to use Frontpage to directly modify the contents of your web site hosted by Silicon Connections.  This is not the recommended method, as it is slower to develop your web pages.  If you want to use this method, simply select the Open Web option in the Frontpage Explorer and type in http://silcon.com/~yourusername for a personal account, or www.yourdomain.com for domain accounts.

Obtaining Microsoft Frontpage Support

Silicon Connections can provide Frontpage server extention support and basic support on how to use Frontpage to access your web site on Silicon Connections, however we can not provide assistance with using the actual program to create web sites.  This support can be obtained free of charge from Microsoft.  Please refer to the Frontpage product documentation for details.
