FAQ- Web Browser Error Message -
No DNS Entry

Question: Why am I am receiving this message when I am browsing the Internet?

Answer:
This is a common error message that you may experience while using Netscape. There is a similar Internet Explorer Error Message and the same resolution may be tried with similar results. The DNS error is the most common error that you can receive while visiting the Internet. It can mean several things-

If you only get this error once in a while when you are browsing the Internet, it can mean:

  • The server for the Page/URL you are trying to reach is too crowded or is unreachable at that moment.
  • Or the URL that you are trying to reach does not exist.
    • Check for a typographical error.  Make sure that the URL address you have typed is correct.
  • If you reached this page by using one of your Bookmark or Favorite entries,
    • The URL you are trying to reach no longer exists - or-
    • The URL has been moved.

If you have received this message and it has loaded a previously cached copy of your start page it can mean:

  • That you are no longer connected to the server.
  • Or the site you were visiting is no longer connected to their server; their site has temporarily lost contact with the Web.

If you are getting either of these errors immediately upon opening your browser there are several things you can try.
