FAQ - Removing Your Email From the Server or Accessing it at another location - Troubleshooting Tips

Question: I recently upgraded my Mail Client and the first time I downloaded my email I got every email I had already downloaded from my Silicon Connections account!.  There were 200 emails!  Why did this happen and how can I avoid having it happen the next time I upgrade my Mail Client?

Answer: When you setup your Email Preferences in your Email Client you did not enable the "Remove Mail from server after downloading" setting. Therefore, you have never really removed your mail from our server, you have only downloaded a copy of it.   When you upgrade your Mail Client, it has no way of determining that this mail has been previously viewed.  The new Mail Client will treat all of your mail that is on our Server as "New" and again send you a copy of it the first time you attempt to "download" your mail.   It it extremely important that you use the following instructions to make sure that this situation does not happen again.

Question: I want to access my mail from home at my work location.  Should I use different setup preferences my office?

Answer: You may want to choose different setup preferences for your office location.  This is especially true if you just want to read your mail at the office and actually manage your mail at your home location.  You have an  option of leaving your mail on the server or deleting your mail from the server when you access it at a secondary location.   Use the following instructions to determine the appropriate setup preferences for your Mail Client.
