DialUp Networking Connection

Windows 95, 98 and ME

1. After Starting your PC, Go to your Desktop.
Double click on the My Computer Icon on your Desktop. The following screen will appear:

2. Double Click on the Dial-Up Networking Folder Icon in the My Computer Screen. The following screen will appear:

3. Double Click on the Make New Connection Icon in the Dial-up Networking Screen. The following screen will appear:

  • Complete the Name entry for the Computer you are dialing:
  • The Modem Entry should default to the automatically detected Modem connected to your Computer.
    • If it does not, click on the dropdown arrow and select the correct Modem or Configure your Modem by Clicking on the Configure Button.


4. Upon Completion click the Next> button. The following screen will appear:

  • If you have completed the entries for this connection, click on the Finish Button.

6. The following screen will appear.

  • Click once on your newly made connection Icon to highlight it.
  • Go to File/Properties.

7. The following screen will appear.

  • Verify that the Area Code and Phone Number entered is correct.
  • Verify that the Modem is correct.


8. If you have Call Forwarding on the Phone Line you will be using:
Click on the Configure Button and the Modem Properties Screen will appear.
Click on the Forwarding Tab and the following screen will appear.
If you have Call Forwarding Click on the indicator box.

9. Click Ok on the Modem Properties Box and return to the General Tab Area of the previous Screen.

10. Click on the Server Types Tab and the following screen will appear.

11. Make sure that the :

  • Dial-Up Server Type is: PPP: Internet ,Windows 95, or 98 or  Windows NT
  • Only Advanced option checked is: Enable software compression.
  • Only Allowed network protocol checked is: TCP/IP

12. Click on the TCP/IP Settings Button and the following screen will appear:

  • Checked settings should be only for:
    • Server assigned IP address
    • Server assigned name server addresses
    • Use IP header compression
    • Use default gateway on remove network

13. Upon completion click on the OK button and the OK button on the "Type of Dialup Server" screen and the system will return to

14. You may choose to make a shortcut that will appear on your desktop for any new connections you create

or you may initiate your dialer programs from this folder.

  • To create a desktop shortcut for this connection, highlight the Icon by left mouse clicking once on it.
  • Then right mouse click once to open up the Windows options and left mouse click on Create Shortcut.

15. To Make a Dial-up Networking Connection click on the Connection Icon you established above. The following screen will appear:

16. Click on the Connect Button and your Modem will begin the Dial-up process.

17. If you need to change the Phone number you are dialing:

  • Temporarily: You can change the phone number in the above field and click on the Connect Button.
  • Permanently: You can change the phone number by changing the Connection Properties shown in steps 6 and 7.
  •  

18. If you need to change the location you are dialing from:

  • Click on the Dial Properties Button above and the following screen will appear:
  • Change the appropriate fields or create an additional Dialing from Location by clicking on the New Button and entering the new dialing information.
  • Click on the OK Button and your new Dialing from Location settings will be saved.
