Helpful Tips About How to
Read your Selected Web Pages Offline/Disconnected from the Internet :
Caching/Saving the Web Pages for Viewing-
- Connect to the Internet
- Open your Web Browser application, either Netscape or Internet Explorer
- Use a Search Engine (i.e.: Yahoo or Excite or Alta Vista) to locate the page(s) that you
want to read or enter the Web Site URL/http:// Address in the Location Entry Box.
- Add a Bookmark/Favorite for this page-
- If using Netscape: Click on Communicator/Bookmarks/Add Bookmark or Click on the
Bookmarks Icon in your Toolbar and Click on Add Bookmark
- If using Internet Explorer: Click on Favorites/ Add to Favorites
Once Bookmarked, you will always be able to return to this site and view the latest
copy of this page.
- After the Pages have loaded in your Browser, they will be cached/saved in your Browser's
History File.
- Make sure that you open all of the pages needed for a complete viewing of the article or
articles you wish to read. You will then be able to view the entire piece when you are
working "offline"/ disconnected from the Internet.
Reading Selected Web Pages Offline-
- To view these pages offline/disconnected from the Internet, leave your Web Browser
application (either Netscape or Internet Explorer) open.
- Change your Settings to work offline.
- If using Netscape: Click on File/Go Offline
- If using Internet Explorer: Click on File/Work Offline
- Open you History Files for viewing of previously cached/saved web pages/documents.
- If using Netscape: Click on Communicator/History.
Locate and Double Click on the web page/document you wish to view
- If using Internet Explorer: Click on the History Icon in your Toolbar.
Locate and Click on the web page/document you wish to view
Remember, that you will not be able to view pages in an Offline mode that you
have not previously cached/opened during a "Connected" to the Internet Session.
Reconnecting to the Internet to Find More Web Pages-
- To reconnect to the Internet, leave your Web Browser application still open, either
Netscape or Internet Explorer.
- Change your Settings back to work online.
- If using Netscape: Click on File/Go Online
- If using Internet Explorer: Click on File/Work Online
- Resume reviewing pages
- From a "Bookmarked" site-
- Open your Bookmarks or Favorites Folders
- If using Netscape: Click on Communicator/Bookmarks or Click on the Bookmarks Icon in
your Toolbar
- If using Internet Explorer: Click on Favorites Icon
- Double Click on the page you previously bookmarked and the browser will reopen the page
for you to resume viewing.
- To go to another page-
- Use a Search Engine (i.e.: Yahoo or Excite or Alta Vista) to locate the page(s) that you
want to read or enter the Web Site URL/http:// Address in the Location Entry Box.
- Begin again at Step 4 in the "Caching/Saving the Web Pages for Viewing"
instruction set shown above.
