FAQ - About Reading
Selected Web Pages
Offline/Disconnected from the Internet
Questions:
Why do I get disconnected before
I finish reading the Web Page? Can I read Web Pages when I am not connected to the
Internet???
Answer: Web Browsers were actually designed to save pages you wish to
view from the Internet and allow you to read them at your leisure "offline" when
you are not connected to the Internet. To avoid overloading of your connection, we
automatically disconnect you from the Internet after a period of "inactivity".
Helpful Tips About How to
Read your Selected Web Pages Offline/Disconnected from the Internet :
Caching/Saving the Web Pages for Viewing-
- Connect to the Internet
- Open your Web Browser application, either Netscape or Internet Explorer
- Use a Search Engine (i.e.: Yahoo or Excite or Alta Vista) to locate the page(s) that you
want to read or enter the Web Site URL/http:// Address in the Location Entry Box.
- Add a Bookmark/Favorite for this page-
- If using Netscape: Click on Communicator/Bookmarks/Add Bookmark or Click on the
Bookmarks Icon in your Toolbar and Click on Add Bookmark
- If using Internet Explorer: Click on Favorites/ Add to Favorites
Once Bookmarked, you will always be able to return to this site and view the latest
copy of this page.
- After the Pages have loaded in your Browser, they will be cached/saved in your Browser's
History File.
- Make sure that you open all of the pages needed for a complete viewing of the article or
articles you wish to read. You will then be able to view the entire piece when you are
working "offline"/ disconnected from the Internet.
Reading Selected Web Pages Offline-
- To view these pages offline/disconnected from the Internet, leave your Web Browser
application (either Netscape or Internet Explorer) open.

- If using Internet Explorer: Click on File/Work Offline
- Open you History Files for viewing of previously cached/saved web pages/documents.
- If using Netscape: Click on Communicator/History.

Remember, that you will not be able to view pages in an Offline mode that you
have not previously cached/opened during a "Connected" to the Internet Session.
Reconnecting to the Internet to Find More Web Pages-
- To reconnect to the Internet, leave your Web Browser application still open, either
Netscape or Internet Explorer.
- Change your Settings back to work online.
- If using Netscape: Click on File/Go Online
- If using Internet Explorer: Click on File/Work Online
- Resume reviewing pages
- From a "Bookmarked" site-
- Open your Bookmarks or Favorites Folders
- If using Netscape: Click on Communicator/Bookmarks or Click on the Bookmarks Icon in
your Toolbar
- If using Internet Explorer: Click on Favorites Icon
- Double Click on the page you previously bookmarked and the browser will reopen the page
for you to resume viewing.
