How to Setup Netscape
Email and Newsgroup
Preferences -Netscape 4.08
Question:
How do I setup the my Netscape
Email & Newsgroup Preferences for 4.08?
Answer: Use the following
instructions for setup.
Netscape Email &
Newsgroup Setup for 4.08
Download Netscape 4.08 by clicking on the
appropriate link from our software list.
- After downloading, Open Netscape Communicator:
Click on Edit.
Click on Preferences.
- Go to the Columns on the left hand side.
- Double click on Mail & Groups folder.
- Click on Identity.
- Full Name: Enter
it as you want it to appear (i.e. John Smith)
- Email Address: Enter your complete Email
Address- all in lower case (i.e.- jsmith@silcon.com)
- Reply to Email Address: Enter your complete Email Address- all
in lower case (i.e.- jsmith@silcon.com) or if you want your replies to be sent to another
email address enter it (i.e. jsmith@workaddress.com)
- Go back to the Columns on the left hand
side.In the Mail & Groups folder-
- Click on Mail Server
- SMTP server: Enter mail.silcon.com
- Incoming mail server: Enter mail.silcon.com
- Mail Server Type: Click on POP3
- Leave messages on server after retrieval- Always leave this Unchecked
(unless you are currently performing this setup at a location other than your
"home" and you want to just read your mail rather than manage your mail at this
location).
- Click on the More Options button
- Local Mail Directory: Accept the default path
or change to your own chosen directory folder.
- IMAP Server Directory: Leave Blank
- Check for Mail Every __ Minutes: Leave this
unchecked to allow you to check for new email on your demand.
- Remember my email password: Check this if you
don't want to reenter your password every time you access your email.
- Use Netscape Messenger from MAPI-based applications: Leave
this unchecked
- Click Okay to exit the More Mail Server Preferences
Window
- Go back to the Columns on the left hand
side.In the Mail & Groups folder-
- Click on Groups Server
- Discussion groups (news) server: Enter
news.silcon.com
- Port: Accept the default 119
- Discussion groups (news) folder: Accept the
default path or change to your own chosen directory folder.
- Ask me before downloading more than 500 messages.
Click on the box to enable.
- Click OK.
You are now setup to use Netscape Communicator as your email client.
