How to Setup Netscape Email & Newsgroup
Preferences - Netscape 4.5

 

Question: How do I setup the my Netscape Email & Newsgroup Preferences for 4.5?

Answer: Use the following instructions for setup.

 

Netscape Email & Newsgroup Setup for 4.5

 

After loading the Software-
Win 95/98 Installation

  • After installing, Open Netscape Communicator:
  • Click on Communicator, Click on Messenger,
  • Netscape Communicator Services–Inbox–Netscape Folder will open
  • Click on Edit.
  • Click on Preferences.
  • Go to the Columns on the left hand side.
  • Double click on Mail & Newsgroups folder.
  • Click on Identity.

Your Name: Enter it as you want it to appear (i.e. John Smith)

Email Address: Enter your complete Email Address- all in lower case (i.e.- jsmith@silcon.com)

Reply to Email Address: Enter your complete Email Address- all in lower case (i.e.- jsmith@silcon.com) or if you want your replies to be sent to another email address enter it (i.e. jsmith@workaddress.com)

  • Go back to the Columns on the left hand side. In the Mail & Newsgroups folder-
  • Click on Mail Server

Incoming Mail Servers -

  • If there is a server highlighted -Click on Edit
  • If there is nothing entered- Click on Add
  • Entries for the General Tab:

  • Server Name: mail.silcon.com
  • Server Type: Pop3 Server
  • User Name: Enter Your Login Account name - all in lower case (i.e.- if your email address is jsmith@silcon.com your user id = jsmith).
  • Remember password: Check if you do not want to re-enter your password each time you access your mail
  • Check for mail every 10 minutes: Check only if you want to automatically check for new incoming mail while you are connected
  • Automatically download new messages: Check if you want to automatically download new messages when checking for mail.

Entries for the POP Tab:

  • Leave messages on server: Always leave this Unchecked (unless you are currently performing this setup at a location other than your "home" and you want to just read your mail rather than manage your mail at this location).
  • When deleting a message locally, remove it from the server. Check this only if you want to leave the messages on the server until you actually delete the message.
  • Click on OK to return the the Mail Servers Window.

Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: Enter mail.silcon.com

Outgoing mail server user name: Enter your Login Account name - all in lower case (i.e.- if your email address is jsmith@silcon.com your user id = jsmith).

Use Secure Socket Layer(SSL) or TLS for outgoing messages: Check never

Local mail directory: Accept the default path or change to your own chosen directory folder.

  • Go back to the Columns on the left hand side. In the Mail & Newsgroups folder-
  • Click on Newsgroup Servers

Accept Default: news (Default)

Ask me before downloading more than 500 messages. Click on the box to enable. news (Default)

Ask me before downloading more than 500 messages. Click on the box to enable.

Newsgroup directory: Accept the default path or change to your own chosen directory folder.

Click OK. You are now setup to use Netscape Communicator as your email client.
