FAQ's About File Extensions/Formats
Welcome to the Silicon Connections "How To" section. Below you will find some useful information to help you make the most of your Silicon Connections account.

While using the Internet to exchange email attachments and download files, you will encounter many different file types. You can view many files by opening them in a Web Browser - Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer.  However, you may also wish to use other programs for Viewing or  Editing. We have compiled a list of the most common file types and have provided the names of sample programs you can use to access your email attachments and file downloads. If you would like to know more about any of the specific file types, please go to http://www.learnthenet.com/english/html/34filext.htm.

Many of the listed programs you probably already have loaded on your computer system.   They may have been bundled in with your original licensed software configuration. However, not all versions of software may support the file extensions listed.  So we have shown alternative programs that can be also be used.

Some of the alternative programs listed are shareware, or software that has a trial period. At the end of the trial period you may need to pay a nominal fee. These fees help support continuing program development. You may also obtain a copy of some of these programs as freeware, or software that is free to be shared by everyone. To obtain these programs, you can go to http://www.download.com.
