FAQ - Saving an Email Message for later completion
Eudora Light

Question: How can I save an email message that I haven't finished composing so that I can complete it later on for sending?  How can I save a email message that I may want to use again as a standard  response?

Answer: Use the following Instructions.

Email Composition Tip-

You should always compose lengthy email messages while using Eudora Light in an "Offline/Disconnected from the Internet" mode.
For more information, see our FAQ - How to Compose Emails while Offline/Disconnected from the Internet.

Saving a Message

Sometimes it is convenient to save an outgoing message either as a safeguard when typing long messages, or so you can return to it later to make changes.

  • To save the current message, from the File menu select Save .

Saved messages are put in the Out mailbox with a bullet in the Status column. This indicates that the message has been saved and can be sent or queued for sending. You can continue making changes or close the message. If you try to close an outgoing message window without saving that version of the message, an alert is displayed asking if the message should be saved or the changes discarded. If you select Discard and the message has never been saved, the message is deleted.

Differences Between Save and Save As

When you select Save, your message is saved
in the Out mailbox, and identified with a bullet as "Unsent"
When you select Save As, you save the message as a text file on your computer.   You may choose to do this if you want to reuse this message as a standard response.

  • To save the current message for reuse as a standard response, from the File menu select Save As.

Completing an "Unsent" Message

1. Double click on your "Out" mailbox to open it.
2. Locate your Unsent message - indicated by a Bullet in the Status Box
3. Double click on your selected unsent message to open it.
4. Complete the message and Click on the Send Button.

Troubleshooting

If you have saved a message and it doesn't appear in the Out mailbox, you may have chosen Save As instead of Save. Use your computer's find utility to search for and find the message.

Reusing a Message that has been saved as a text file

To retrieve, finish, and send an email message an email message that has been saved as a text file:

1. From the File menu select Open Text File
2. Click on the Text File message you want to use, and Double Click on the Open Button
3. From the Edit Menu select Select All, then go to the Edit Menu again and select Copy.
4. From the File Menu select Close.
5. From the Message Menu select New Message.
6. From the Edit Menu select Paste. The Saved Text from your file will be pasted into your new message.
7. Complete the message and Click on the Send Button.
