Setup Additional Mailboxes with Netscape 4.x

Win95 or 98

Question: How do I setup additional mail boxes or "User Profiles" in Netscape 4.x?

Answer: Profiles allow several users to share one copy of Communicator.  Each profile contains its own email account, bookmarks, address book, stored messages and preferences.

Netscape User Profile Setup:

• From your Desktop:
  Click on Start.
  Click on Programs.
  Click on Netscape.
  Click on Utilities.
  Click on User Profile Manager.

• Profile Manager Window
  Click on New and then Next.
  
• New Profile Setup Windows
  Read the information about Creating a New Profile.
  Click on Next.
  Full Name: Enter your name as you want it to appear (i.e. John Smith)
  Email Address: Enter your complete Email Address- all in lower case (i.e.- jsmith@silcon.com)
  Click on Next.
  Profile Name: Enter a profile name (i.e.- jsmith)
  Directory Path: (we recommend that you accept the default)
  Click on Next.
  
• Mail and Discussion Groups Setup Windows
  Full Name: Enter it as you want it to appear in your email headers.
  Email Address: Enter your complete Email Address- all in lower case (i.e.- jsmith@silcon.com)
  Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: Enter mail.silcon.com
  Click on Next.
  Mail Server User Name: Enter your user/account name (i.e.: jsmith).
  Incoming Mail Server: Enter mail.silcon.com
  Mail Server type: Click on POP3
  Click on Next.
  News (NNTP) server: Enter news.silcon.com
  Port: Accept default of 119
  Secure: Should remain blank.
  Click on Finish.
  

• Open Netscape
  You will be prompted to select the profile you would like to use.
  Click the Profile Name of the mailbox you would like to access.
  After Netscape opens, Click on Communicator to read email.

• To access the email of another user-
  Close and reopen Netscape.
  You will again be prompted to select the profile you would like to use.
  Click on the next Profile Name of the mailbox you would like to access.
